How to Use the Jersey Sleeping Bag

Using the Jersey Sleeping Bag for safe infant sleep

Our Jersey Sleeping Bag is a baby and toddler sleeping bag designed for arms out sleepers (usually from around 3 months of age). The Jersey Bag has a slim-fit, stretchy design similar to that of a swaddle and is recommended as baby's 'first sleeping bag' after the swaddling phase is over. The stretchy material allows your child to move more freely and stay comfortable while they sleep.

How to Use the Jersey Sleeping Bag

1. Lay the Jersey Bag on flat, low surface with zip open
2. Lay child on top of Jersey Bag. Put arms into the sleeves and tuck legs into pouch, zip up.
3. To change a nappy or cool down child, zip open from the bottom of the pouch to release legs and lower torso.. Zip closed again when finished.
4. Layer underneath for warmth as needed.

Let’s check the fit!

An important safety element when using a Sleeping Bag is to ensure it’s correctly fitted to prevent the product from riding up around your child’s face. Here’s how you can check you’ve got the right size.

1. Check you have the correct size according to your baby's weight using our Size Guide.
2. Put the Sleeping Bag on your child.
3. Slip two fingers into the neckhole of the Bag, and onto your child’s chest. The material should feel firm and comfortable on your fingers, but not tight.
4. Check your child’s hips and legs. Your child’s knees should be able to flop outwards in a frog like position without any restriction.

Jersey Sleeping Bag
Our Jersey Sleeping Bag is a baby and toddler sleeping bag designed for arms-out sleepers (usually from around 3 months of age). The Jersey Sleeping Bag has a slim-fit, stretchy design similar to that of a swaddle and is recommended as baby's 'first sleeping bag' after the swaddling phase is over. Please use your child's weight to find the most appropriate and safe size for them. A sleeping bag should be well fitted around the neck and the armholes to avoid your baby slipping through. It should also be bell shaped in the bottom to allow for easy leg movement. Please do not size up to the next size until your child meets the weight requirement, for safety reasons.

Understanding TOG ratings

Your Sleeping Bag comes with a TOG rating. TOG stands for Thermal Overall Grade and is a unit of measurement for insulation and warmth of sleepwear and bedding. Put simply, the lower the TOG rating the lighter the fabric. The higher the rating, the more padded and insulated it is for warmth. TOG rated fabrics are important as your baby cannot regulate their temperature like adults can.

The TOG rating means that there is no need for additional blankets in the cot when using this lightweight sack, making it a safe-sleep option. Parents can be rest assured that the breathable organic, natural fibres will help regulate their child’s temperature and prevent overheating. Parents can follow the FREE room thermometer and What to Wear guide provided with the roomy sleeping bag, to layer appropriately underneath to keep their child warm.

What TOGs does the Sleeping Bag come in?

Choose from four TOGs for comfortable sleeping no matter the temperature. The Jersey Sleeping Bag is available in 0.2, 1.0, 2.5, and 3.5 TOG.

With TOG-rated sleeping bags, you don’t need any additional blankets in your child’s bassinet or cot, making it safer for sleep. Using the right TOG for the weather will help your child regulate their temperature and prevent waking from being too hot, sweaty or cold.

The sleeves on the Jersey Bag are rated 1.0 TOG and provide extra warmth on cooler nights. The TOG rating means that there is no need for additional blankets in the cot when using this product, making it a safe-sleep option. Parents can be rest assured that the breathable organic, natural fibres will help regulate their child’s temperature and prevent overheating.

Parents can follow the FREE room thermometer and What to Wear guide provided with the product, to layer appropriately underneath to keep their child warm. We recommend pairing this pouch with one of our TOG-rated Layers or Bodywear underneath (sold separately).

Extend the life of your Jersey Sleeping Bag

All ergoPouch pouches are double-stitched and dyed with a non-toxic water-based dye, and certified to be free from formaldehyde, phthalates and lead. Cared for properly, this product will last several years and can be used for more than one baby. Our TOGs don't lose their warmth ratings over time, but a gentle fluff up in the dryer on a low setting helps maintain the fibre's loft, allowing air to circulate through more effectively.

If you've received a second-hand Jersey Sleeping Bag, check for loose threads, stable zips and any stretch around the neck before using.
